When I was a kid, I overheard someone say that those with a birthmark under their feet will go places. I quickly looked down at my feet and found two- one under each. Still living in south India at the time, I thought that’s such bogus. But soon enough, our family moved to New York and after graduation, I transplanted myself in Berkeley, California. Then I read a quote by his Holiness the Dalai Lama suggesting that one should go to a new place each year. Of course I could have gone to the next town over, but I choose to travel far. Every year since then I’ve gone to a different corner of the world. So far, my precious feet have touched the gorgeous lands of north India, Kenya, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Oaxaca, Italy, Baja California, Paradise Island, Mayan Riviera and Costa Rica. I still wonder if those birthmarks ever had anything to do with how my life turned out, but regardless of what caused what, it’s been quite a ride so far. Here are some of my favorites…

Places on my wish list…. Nepal, Tibet, Myanmar, Rajasthan, Kerala, Galapagos, Ecuador, Peru, Brazil, Botswana, South Africa… among others. If I could combine traveling, writing and volunteering, I’d be one happy camper. :)
